Chair yoga is one of the most gentle and accessible forms of yoga. Unlike other forms of yoga, Chair Yoga (as its name implies) is practiced sitting on a chair, or using a chair for support.
In recent years it has increasingly being recognized formally as a type of yoga distinct from other types. Chair Yoga had originally been developed for the yoga student who is unable to participate in a traditional yoga class due to the effects of aging or disabilities. But Chair Yoga is also a wonderful practice for anyone, since the use of a chair as a prop helps to deepen flexibility and strengthen personal body awareness. Although it can be found being offered at traditional yoga studios, Chair Yoga classes are more often to be found at senior fitness centers, retirement facilities, and adult daycare centers.
